From the Ashes is a Cinderfella set roughly in 16th century France, taking us back to the origins of the popular fairy tale. One should not expect historical accuracy in any tale that includes a fairy godmother.
This is not my typical historical. But efforts have been made to at least keep the feel of the era and make sure all elements are contemporaneous.
While Cinder digested her claim to be his fairy godmother, she pulled out a wand and waved the slender rod at him. His dress grew suddenly weightier. Cinder glanced down and gasped. He was now encased in a frothy, airy confection of blue satin, lace and pearls. When he took a step back in shock, Cinder almost fell, owing to the glass slippers on his feet. Glass? Whose crazy idea was that?

DeleteApparently, the original was squirrel-skin, but someone mistranslated it.
I can picture him. I want to read more :) Love the cover, by the way, it's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteCinder is a bit snarky and stronger than he thought.
Deletelove the description and his point about the ridiculous glass slippers.
ReplyDeleteI always thought those were a bit over the top. Very distinctive - no one else would have one.
DeleteLove his bewilderment and the comment about the slippers XD
ReplyDeleteHis fairy godmother is just a bit moonstruck herself.
DeleteI love the sound of this story. I've read one m/m interpretation of Cinderella before and it was great. I'm sure this one will be even better.
