Rainbow Snippets - Save a Horse, Dive a Cowboy

This week's snippet comes from my rom-com shifter story Save a Horse, Dive a Cowboy. Shep is trying to earn his diving certificate so he can save Hoss.

"Cecil...?"

"Shep."

"But it says here Cecil...." The guy glanced at the clipboard in his hand and gave him a strange look. Was that pity? "Orville Shepherd."

"Just call me Shep."

  1. Yep! When you're the only boy, you get saddled with both grandfathers' names.

    1. ROFL! I love that. I have a character with a horribly pretentious name too, and he definitely doesn't go by that.

  2. If I was called Cecil I think I'd prefer to go by Shep too. Love the confusion here.

    1. It's just the entire thing. Imagine going through high school with that moniker.

  3. I'll be working with a Cecil this afternoon/evening. (And I had a great uncle with that name.)

A lot of guys go by their last name, though, so it's an easy nickname to figure out.

    1. Someone suggested I call the cowboy Shep. I'm fine with the stereotype, but didn't want it to be that straight forward.
Mommas don't let your Sheps grow up to be cowboys!

  4. Yeah, I'd want to be called "Shep" too. Great snippet, Kayla. :)

  5. LOL. Maybe I'm giving away my age by saying I like the name "Orville." :-)

    1. He's hoping everyone has forgotten he ever had another name.
